Legal Win, Cleanups, and Community Momentum

Our Summer Newsletter is brimming with progress. Here’s a brief, blog-length recap that orients readers and then sends them to the full issue.

Legal victory with national reach. A federal appeals court ordered the EPA to revisit outdated industrial water-pollution standards for seven major industries—reaffirming that the Clean Water Act requires modern treatment technology to keep toxins like cyanide, benzene, mercury, and chlorides out of our waterways. This case includes facilities in Tennessee and along the Tennessee River in Decatur, AL, underscoring real local impact. tennesseeriverkeeper.dm.networkforgood.com

On-the-ground results. Volunteers and partners kept making a dent: 2,023 lbs of trash were pulled from Pinhook Creek (Huntsville) in honor of The Orion Amphitheater’s 100th show, and 2,903 lbs were removed from the Cumberland River (West Nashville) earlier this summer—part of ~9,500 lbs taken out of waterways so far this year. Tires (90 from the Cumberland alone) are a priority because they shed microplastics and other chemicals. tennesseeriverkeeper.dm.networkforgood.com

Education and media. Cleanups aren’t enough; we continue pushing prevention and policy through public education and press—recently via NBC’s Today in Nashville, FOX Huntsville, and MorningLine Nashville. tennesseeriverkeeper.dm.networkforgood.com

Community & remembrance. Nature + Nurture (founded by Delaney Royer and Taylin Lewan) hosted a “Dinner by the Creek” fundraiser supporting Tennessee Riverkeeper, while we honor the life and legacy of outdoorsman Terry Wolaver, whose family continues to support this work. tennesseeriverkeeper.dm.networkforgood.com

Team & volunteers. Please welcome Brandon Hayes, our Outreach Coordinator. He’s growing our member community and you’ll see him at The Orion Amphitheater (Tipper, Blink-182, Billy Strings). Want to help with outreach? Email volunteer@tennesseeriver.org. tennesseeriverkeeper.dm.networkforgood.com
